Frequently asked questions

We all have questions about what to expect, and some of the common ones are covered here. If your query isn't answered, please get in touch with us.

What camera equipment do I need?

Any camera equipment can be used on the holidays - the objective of the course is to increase your visual perception and improve subject composition. There will be the opportunity to use both wide angle and long lenses, so these are useful to bring. We will review digital shots in the evening sessions. A tripod is highly recommended. If you are not familiar with all of the operations of your camera (e.g. setting shutter speeds/apertures) bring along the manual for reference.

How many people are going to be on the holiday?

We have small groups; a maximum of 4 photographers on any holiday to ensure you get maximum benefit from individual attention and that we can be as flexible as possible. No 'coach parties' here!

Can I talk to someone who has been on a previous holiday?

Yes, certainly. A number of past participants have offered to talk to people who are interested in joining a photoTrails holiday. Please contact us and we will provide details.

Is there a single person supplement or will I have to share if I'm on my own?

No. There is no increase in price if you are traveling on your own - indeed, most participants are. You will, of course, have your own private bedroom with ensuite bathroom.

Do I have to be really fit - will I have to walk miles?

No - this is a photography holiday, not a walking holiday! However, you will need to walk a little to get into the best positions, but rarely for more than for 15 minutes. Stout shoes are recommended. We use 4x4 vehicles to get you as close as we can, but at times we don't want to disturb the wildlife.

Can I stay for longer than the course?

We are happy to arrange extensions at either end of the course, subject to availability of the accommodation. Please contact us to find out more.

I can't make those dates, or want to focus on landscapes - will you run a holiday just for me?

We are happy to run tailored courses if you would like to focus on specific items from the course content or if the dates are not convenient. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

What food will be available?

The evening meals are typical Spanish dishes, cooked by local chefs at the accommodation or from restaurants in the surrounding area. Lunches will either be traditional tapas from bars or picnic lunches for those days that we want to enjoy being outside over lunchtime.

Can you accommodate my special dietary requirements?

Yes, but please let us know what these are when booking.

How do we get from/to the airport?

The holiday includes airport transfers from Alicante airport to your accommodation at the beginning and end of your holiday (14.00 on the day of arrival, return for 11.00 on day of departure). Transfers can be arranged for other airports (Almeria, Murica or Granada), however these will be subject to an additional charge.

How do I book flights?

Alicante is well served by easyJet, flyMonach and jet2, offering cheap flights from airports throughout the UK. Flight bookings can be made on their websites. You must ensure that you flight arrives by 14.00 on the day of arrival and check-in is not before 11.00 on the day of departure or you will need to arrange alternative airport transfer(s) or car hire.

Where can I get travel insurance?

Travel insurance is required for our holidays. We suggest Endsleigh or InsureAndGo for travel insurance.

I don't have a credit card - can I book?

Not a problem. Just contact us and we will help to arrange an alternative payment method.

They should hire a car from the airport for the transfer and so they can fully enjoy the area while you are off taking photos.
